Officials are investigating the death of a man who fell off a roller coaster at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo carnival Sunday night, just a few hours before the 20-day rodeo ended.
The 46-year-old man was on a roller coaster called the "Hi-Miler" when he fell about 28 feet to the ground around 9:30 p.m. He was given CPR by medical officials before being rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
In his fall, the man hit a passerby, who was treated for a broken ankle.
Rodeo Houston Chief Operating Officer Leroy Shafer told Channel 13 it's unclear how the man fell. Safety teams inspected the ride and found no malfunctions. The roller coaster is inspected daily.
An autopsy is being performed today.
