Sylvia's shooter attempted a Louisiana fake-out before getting captured atHouston-area hotel
An anonymous tip led police to the Palace Inn motel in Rosenberg, where shooting suspect Michael Warren was arrested without incident Thursday night.
Warren was wanted by the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office since Monday night, when he allegedly shot ex-girlfriend Sylvia Casares in the abdomen inside her home in Fulshear. Casares is well-known in Houston as the owner of Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen, where Warren also worked. Casares is in stable condition after undergoing surgery and expected to recover.
The hunt for Warren stretched from Houston to his hometown of Lafayette, La., where the black Yukon SUV he was believed to be driving was found abandoned in a hospital parking lot. According to reports, a relative apparently drove Warren back to the Houston area.
Warren is in the Fort Bend County Jail with a bond set at $100,000.
Casares' children are running the restaurants as she recovers, and released a statement thanking Houstonians for reaching out.
"We appreciate all the concern from friends and ask them to keep her in their thoughts and prayers. As our mother would want us to, we remain focused and optimistic on her recovery. If you would like to send your well wishes to Sylvia, there is a guest book at both her Woodway and Westheimer locations," Nicholas, Celeste and Jason Martinez wrote.
