Dancing with the Stars dropout Tom DeLay dishes on the jobless
Our favorite compassionate conservative, Dancing with the Stars dropout and Sugar Land homeboy Tom DeLay came out on CNN’s State of the Union with his explanation for the nation’s unemployment epidemic. DeLay believes that unemployed people relish being jobless.
In an interview with Candy Crowley, DeLay called Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) "brave" for launching a one-man filibuster of unemployment benefits, arguing that the system deters people from locating new work. (The Senate passed a $10-billion-stopgap unemployment measure last week, after including an amendment offered by Sen. Bunning that prevents further deficits — an effort that nearly brought the Senate proceedings to a halt.)
In his erudite manner, DeLay cites "some studies" demonstrating that "people stay on unemployment compensation and they don’t look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out." DeLay labels supporting the unemployed with government funds as "unsound policy," and said that “Obama is spending monies that we don’t have."
Tom DeLay knows lots about handling "monies," as he was indicted in 2005 by a Texas court for violations of state campaign finance laws and money laundering. DeLay resigned in 2006, proclaiming his innocence.
Elegantly evolving from corrupt crony to a Dancing With the Stars diva certainly merits some credit. At the moment, DeLay is self employed at his Christ-centered political consulting firm, First Principles LLC.
Yet DeLay is mysteriously still given a platform for political commentary on the unemployed. It makes one wonder if DeLay's ever actually talked to someone who's lost their job — a real job, not a political one.
Take that stress-fractured foot out of your mouth, Tommy — and go back into pest control.
