There has been a major new development in the shooting at Lone Star College that captured national attention. The Harris County Sheriff's Office has charged a second suspect involved in the Tuesday gunfight that left three men wounded.
The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Trey Foster, who faces a charge of aggravated assault and remains on the loose. He appears to be the actual gunman . . . not Carlton Berry, his friend who was arrested and charged for the shooting after turning himself in at a north Houston hospital with what had been described as a self-inflicted accidental gunshot wound to the butt several hours after the incident
"This was a ridiculous confrontation," said sheriff Adrian Garcia. "Somebody thought in their peanut-sized brain that pulling a firearm on a college campus wo uld be the way to solve it."
Berry denied knowledge of the gun battle when he first spoke with investigators, according to the Houston Chronicle. He later claimed that a Lone Star College student — presumably shooting victim Jody Neal, 25 — had bumped into Foster, leading to an argument and eventual shootout.
Neal and a maintenance worker caught in the crossfire both remain hospitalized in stable condition.
"There is still a loose end that we need to clear up," Garcia explained at a Thursday morning press conference.
"This was a ridiculous confrontation. This was about an individual who did not care about putting people in harm's way. Somebody thought in their peanut-sized brain that pulling a firearm on a college campus would be the way to solve it."
After apparently accidentally shooting himself in the buttocks, Berry is being held in a hospital ward at a Harris County on a $60,000 bond.
According to records obtained by the Chronicle, Neal identified Berry as the shooter when he saw him being carried on a stretcher.
Later, however, Neal said the gunman was wearing an Atlanta Falcons hat. Earlier in the day, school surveillance video shows Foster wearing the cap.
While Carlton Berry (above) was initially identified as the shooter, it now appears his friend Trey Foster could be the culprit.
