Sugar Daddies love Texas coeds: Creepy website encourages older men to pay tuition for "arrangements"
Were you aware that the recipient of a sugar daddy’s attention is known as a sugar baby? And did you know that there is a website called SeekingArrangement.com that helps set up the whole process?
Did your skin just get a little itchy? Well, there’s more.
For those who aren’t up on the lingo, a sugar daddy is an older gentleman who gives younger women money in exchange for companionship. It’s like if Annie were about 10 years older, and Daddy Warbucks were a little less pure. (The Huffington Post has some useful information for those more interested.)
“While some may argue that these women are just using men for their own personal gain, I believe that they are proactive in pursuing a higher education."
Now that you’re up to speed, allow us to enlighten you further.
Texas university women are signing up for SeekingArrangement.com at a higher rate than just about anywhere else in the country. Two of the 20 fastest growing sugar baby schools are in Texas, and three other Lone Star State schools merited mentions for their growth.
Texas State University came in at No. 10, and the University of North Texas was three spots behind it.
What’s more, women from the University of Texas at Austin, University of Houston, and University of Texas at Arlington have joined the website by the hundreds. Site founder Brandon Wade said that the increase is directly related to rising tuition across the country.
“The population of college sugar babies in Texas has steadily increased every year, with Texas State University leading all major universities in the past year,” Wade said in a statement. “While some may argue that these women are just using men for their own personal gain, I believe that they are proactive in pursuing a higher education.”
In fact, Texas State wasn’t even on last year’s top 20 list, making its ascension into the top 10 all the more impressive — or some other word that describes the situation.
Perhaps most surprising is how much money is involved in an “arrangement.” The average college sugar baby receives around $3,000 per month to pay for tuition, books and loans.
College women (and a smaller section of men) make up 44 percent of the site’s population, perhaps helped by the fact that they can receive a free premium upgrade if they register with their .edu college email. In all, there are more than two million people on SeekingArrangement.com, making it the world’s largest sugar daddy website.
