The Menil Collection, Parsons' favorite Houston destination.
Some celebrities make it from Houston to Hollywood and never mention their Texas roots again. (Alexis Bledel, Hilary Duff and Renee Zellweger, I'm looking at you.)
That's why it's so charming that The Big Bang Theory and Broadway star Jim Parsons wears his Houston pride on his sleeve.
After starring in a commercial extolling Houston's culinary and cultural offerings, Parsons is also giving his hometown a platform as his favorite destination in Vanity Fair's "Where I Go" travel feature. Only Beyoncé gives H-Town more shout-outs.
Parsons lists The Menil Collection as his favorite place to get away from it all.
"It is still my favorite museum I’ve ever visited, partly because it was the first place I ever saw a Magritte painting in person, and partly because it is one of the most beautiful, peaceful areas of the city," he says."
Parsons, who grew up in Spring, says he still can't get enough Mexican food when he comes home, preferring to head to Lupe Tortilla and Pappasito's. He tells VF that he still likes to shop at the Galleria, where he and his friends would get dropped off in high school, and that for a night out he heads to Rudyard's.
"My version of painting the town red is pretty laid back, but I always loved being at Rudyard’s, a pub at 2010 Waugh Drive," Parsons says. "It’s a beautiful, cozy building where I have a lot of good memories —everything from pool and darts to live music and theater. Just a great space."
Can someone go ahead and make this man an official Houston ambassador already?
