Dazzling ladies break out the wow gowns for Houston Grand Opera Ball: Who's the most glamorous of all?
No other gala in the city's dress-up repertoire inspires more stunning formal fashion than the Houston Grand Opera Ball, which in recent years has elevated from black-tie to white-tie-and-tails. And anyone who knows his or her fashion etiquette knows that white-tie affairs command a long gown. No cocktail dresses or evening pants, thank you.
The 2013 opera ball continued the tradition of glam gowns and serious jewels, which surely sent more than a dozen swans to the bank vault for their rubies and diamonds if what we saw was any indication.

Anne Mendelsohn, who shared the ball chair role with husband Dr. John Mendelsohn, stepped out in a navy Lian Carlo Couture gown worn with a smashing set of bling from Nini Jewels. Her understated look was merely a hint at the gowns to follow her down the red carpet into Wortham Theater Center where the La Belle Époque gala took place.
The show stoppers were numerous, including Celina Hellmund in a tiered red gown by Oscar de la Renta, Lynn Wyatt in a red Valentino, Cynthia Petrello in a striped Oscar de la Renta and Carol Linn in a patterned Givenchy. Our favorite dress of the night was the Giorgio Armani Privé worn by Diane Lokey Farb. The list of notable lovelies continued with Pat Breen in Oscar de la Renta, Dancie Ware in Gucci and Isabel David in Jason Wu — so many great looks, too many to name them all.
