Writespace, Houston’s grassroots literary center, is celebrating its first birthday in the month of June with an Indiegogo campaign and birthday party. Writespace’s Indiegogo campaign goal of $5,000 will support scholarships for writers, expanding the Young Writers Program for writers age 14-19, an emergency fund for instructors and general operating support.
The Edward and Helen Oppenheimer Foundation will match contributions up to $5,000, doubling Writespace’s fundraising efforts. Donors will receive exclusive perks for their contributions, including signed books by Houston authors, subscriptions to Gulf Coast Magazine, a bookbinding workshop and a writing retreat at Alvin, Texas brewery Fetching Lab. The campaign launches Writespace’s first anthology, Our Space: Shorts & Poetry from the Houston Community, which includes pieces from Writespace instructors and the Houston community.
