Writers in the Schools hosts "A Celebration of Story" Gala

Writers in the Schools (WITS) hosts "A Celebration of Story," an annual benefit and silent auction that supports literacy and imagination. The event features a silent auction — complete with works of art, creative retreats, a photo booth and games — dinner and a student poetry performance. WITS will honor Rhea Brown Lawson, director of the Houston Public Library, for her outstanding efforts to advance literacy and the literary culture of Houston.

Funds raised from the evening help WITS send writers into school and community classrooms to engage 23,500 children and teachers in the power of story.
