Author Jeanette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, is the guest speaker at the Writers in the Schools (WITS) "Celebration of Story." During this event, WITS will honor Mayor Annise Parker for her life-time advocacy of literacy and arts education. Proceeds from the event will support year-long creative writing programs for underserved children. Walls will narrate the story of her triumphant journey from an impoverished childhood to her emergence as a successful columnist and television personality.

This year’s gathering, which begins at 7 p.m, will include dinner, a silent auction, and music by the Texas Medical Center Orchestra.
