Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet and Houston First Corporation will present the 28th annual tree lighting ceremony. The annual holiday tradition will include costumed characters from upcoming productions of Houston Grand Opera’s The Little Prince and Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Guests will also be treated to live performances of a selection of popular songs from The Little Prince by HGO Opera to Go! Singers. Houston Public Media’s Ernie Manouse will emcee the event. During the celebration, the box office will be open and guests can take advantage of a special day-of discount by receiving $10 off any ticket for The Little Prince.
Guests are encouraged to jump into the giving spirit, and bring gently used books to donate to Books Between Kids, a non-profit organization serving Houston’s at-risk children by providing them with books to build their own home libraries. Holiday treats will be served, and the event will culminate when the 25-foot Christmas tree is illuminated by 8,000 dazzling lights.
