Bing West served as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs in the Reagan administration. A graduate of Georgetown and Princeton Universities, he served in the Marine infantry in Vietnam. His books have won the Marine Corps Heritage Prize, the Colby Award for Military History, the VFW Media Award and appear on the Commandant’s Reading List.
West argues that the hearts and minds strategy is not working, but rather is creating a culture of entitlement instead of cooperation among the Afghans.
