Wally Workman Gallery presents a solo exhibition of Julie Maren’s work titled, "Spacious." Maren expands upon her use of negative space for this show, exploring boundaries and ideas of infinity. She is interested in the space in between, where transitions happen and where light comes through.
In her installation series, Biophilia, each piece feels caught in a moment of almost cosmic motion. This show presents Maren’s paintings for the first time. These works are heavily layered and at the same time heavily redacted, with actual physical pieces of the canvas cut away. As the negative space of the installations give a sense of outward expansion, the negative space of the paintings communicate an inward, introspective movement.
The exhibit will be on display until September 4.
