Urban Harvest class: Starting a Community/School Garden

There are two parts to the Starting a Community/School Garden class series: Community Engagement & Planning and Garden Design, Fruits & Vegetables.

The first class (Aug. 3 and Nov. 2) will explore goals, discuss organizing volunteers and funding, and cover the fundamentals of building a garden, including optimizing bed locations and dimensions and soil choices. There will also be a review on the best vegetables to grow in the Houston area.

The second class (Aug. 17 and Nov. 16) will review and modify the garden design, set a schedule for ordering materials and set a build date. There will also be a discussion on site-specific design implementation. Guests will learn important tips for building and maintaining a garden over time. The class includes a review on suitable fruit trees and habitat plants to grow in Houston gardens.

Non-members -$36 per class; memebers - $24 per class; non-members - $65 for the series; members - $40 for the series
