The nationally celebrated University of Houston - Moores Opera will present its winter comic opera festival featuring two Italian-themed comedies: John Musto’s The Inspector on January 26, 28, and 29 and Domenico Cimarosa’s The Secret Marriage on January 27-30.
Italian-American composer John Musto and librettist Mark Campbell created The Inspector, a fictional and funny story within the Sicilian town of Santa Schifezza, filling it with colorful characters who humorously look to their own self-interest.
Meanwhile, The Secret Marriage features the character of Carolina who has secretly married her father’s assistant. Her father is a fool, her sister is a harpy, her maiden aunt is lusting after her new husband, and a wealthy English count has come to enter into an arranged marriage with her sister, but decides he’d much rather marry Carolina instead. What could possibly go wrong?
