The University of Houston’s English Department, in collaboration with the Partnership for the Advancement and Immersion of Refugees (PAIR), will present an evening of poetry with renowned British poet Patience Agbabi. The event will bring together poetry lovers and advocates for refugee issues to celebrate the power of literature and to draw attention to the ongoing refugee crisis.
Agbabi, an acclaimed poet and performer, has been hailed for her “honest, darkly funny and endlessly creative” writing. Her work is defined by its innovative style, incisive social commentary, and deep empathy for those whose voices are often marginalized or silenced.
In this special reading, Agbabi will share some of her most powerful and moving works, including selections from her acclaimed collection Telling Tales and her contribution to Refugee Tales, a publication from the UK-based refugee advocacy organization.
