Joel Hernandez is a Mexican-born artist who relocated to the United States at the age of nine. He is traveling across the United States with his husband exploring new cities and ideas that he later incorporates into his work.

His colorful three-dimensional work reflects his experiences with growing up in Mexico mixed with American, Mexican-American and gay culture. His papier-mâché work is meant to convey to the viewer a complex and flamboyant exploration of political, sacred and everyday life through a medium that has been used for expression in Mexico since before the arrival of the Spanish.
