The Texan-French Alliance for the Arts celebrates the Open the Door public art project in front of the Houston Public Library. The plaza will morph into a fun-filled venue to host the official presentation and honor the artists of the first 12 doors. The festivities feature live entertainment and encourage audience participation.
Writers in the schools (WITS) and The Storyteller's Guild will hold workshops and spoken word performances. French troupe Et Voila' Theatre and dancers from Urban Souls will showcase their craft. In addition, music from the Hustlers Brass Band from New Orleans, the young orchestra Virtuosi of Houston and a DJ will complement the event.
Open the Door is an international public art project developed by the Texan-French Alliance for the Arts and 9eme Concept, a Parisian artists collective, in collaboration with many Houstonian artists, educational, cultural and community organizations that will exhibit 60 doors transformed into works of art in 16 locations throughout the city this year. One side will be a work of art by a French artist and the other by a Texas artist. Participants are professional artists from France and Texas, as well as local art professors and students laureates.
