According to the National School Supply and Equipment Association, public school teachers in the United States spent more than $1.3 billion out of pocket on school supplies and instructional materials in the 2009-10 school year. 

Teach for America Young Professionals and Advocates is on the case with this event in which guests are asked to donate school supplies while learning about Houston's educational landscape, meeting new friends and enjoying a cold beverage.
