Stages Repertory Theatre presents The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez

eventdetail

At the close of the Civil War, a wounded Jewish Confederate soldier returns to Richmond to find his family home in ruins, inhabited only by two former slaves also raised by his family as Jews. During a cobbled-together Passover Seder, the three men grapple with their new relationships to each other and unravel a tangle of family secrets that could cost each of them his freedom.

All three actors in The Whipping Man — Ross Bautsch, Shawn Hamilton and Joseph Palmore — will be making their Stages debuts with this show. Director Seth Gordon is the associate artistic director at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and returns to Stages with this follow-up to his acclaimed 2012 debut, The Unexpected Man.
