St. Cecilia Chamber Music Society Concerts

The St. Cecilia Chamber Music Society hosts a series of intimate chamber music concerts performed by fine local musicians.

Oct. 8 -  "Inspirations"
The season opener features winds and piano in two quintets, one by Mozart and one by Nielsen. Performers include Judy Dines, flute; Adam Dinitz, oboe; Thomas LeGrand, clarinet; Nancy Goodearl, French horn; Elise Wagner, bassoon; and Rodney Waters, piano.

Nov. 5 - "Voyage to the Land of Dreams"
The Oberon Ensemble performs works for harp, flute and strings, including the monumental Concert Piece by Jongen as well as Voyage to the Land of Tendre by Gabriel Pierne. Performers include Emily Mitchell, harp; Melissa Suhr, flute; Yung-Hsiang Wang, violin; Rene Salazar, viola; and Barrett Sills, cello.

Jan. 28, 2014 - "Let's be Frank"
The program showcases Tres Homenajes: Compadrazgo for Piano Quintet by Gabriela Lena Frank and Piano Quintet in F minor by César Franck. Performers include Sophia Silivos and Jennifer Owens, violin; James Dunham, viola; Barrett Sills, cello; and Rodney Waters, piano.

Note: Due to inclement weather, the concert on Jan. 28 was canceled. The program for the previously scheduled April 1 concert has been changed. The revisions appear below. 

April 1, 2014 - "Let's be Frank"
The program showcases Tres Homenajes: Compadrazgo for Piano Quintet by Gabriela Lena Frank and Piano Quintet in F minor by Cesar Franck. Performers include violinists Frank Huang and Jennifer Owen; violist James Dunham; cellist Barrett Sills; and pianist Rodney Waters.

April 26, 2014 - "Rising Stars"
Talented young chamber music students from Houston Youth Symphony, specially coached by master musicians provided by St. Cecilia, perform. 

May 6, 2014 - "Fairy Tales for Grown-ups"
The season finale features William Bolcom's Fairy Tales for viola, cello and double bass; Jon Deak's The Ugly Duckling for soprano, double bass and string quartet; and Ravel's Ma Mere l'Oye (Mother Goose) for violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano. Performers include Sophia Silivos, violin; James Dunham, viola; Barrett Sills, cello; Deborah Dunham, double bass; Rodney Waters, piano.
