St. Cecilia Chamber Music Society presents Music for Diverse Instruments, with lead musician Judy Dines, flute, Joan DerHovsepian, viola; and Paula Page, harp, in a Debussy trio and a premiere performance of “Elegy” by Chicago composer Lita Grier.
The title of this concert comes directly from Debussy, who, in 1915, started a project called “Six Sonatas for Diverse Instruments.” He never finished the project, but he did complete a famous sonata for flute, viola and harp. This piece is so beloved that other composers began to write for this combination. Now we have a large number of works for this instrumentation, from which we are featuring some of the best, including the Houston premiere of “Elegy” by Chicago composer, Lita Grier.
