The Space City New Music Festival is a week-long summer festival that brings composers, performers, and conductors together to collaborate on newly composed works, study contemporary music, build lifelong relationships, and present concerts for the community of Houston.

PROGRAM

  • July 11: Fresh Ears Concert - The 2018 Space City New Music Festival begins with newly composed works premiered by both Guest Artist Crystal Chu and Guest Chamber Ensemble 3G Percussion. The program celebrates a variety of musical styles from across the world that focus on the diversity that the musical community has to offer by focusing on a concert of exclusive world premieres.
  • July 12: New Pathways Concert - Continuing the mission of the Space City New Music Festival, this concert will host a variety of world premieres by composers from across the globe by resident Guest Artist Crystal Chu and Guest Ensemble 3G Percussion. With music written exclusively for the inaugural festival, there will be a variety of solo and chamber works focusing on a diverse range of musical styles.
  • July 13: Emerging Artist Series Concert - The Emerging Artist Series Concert will be a shared concert featuring Guest Artist Crystal Chu and Guest Chamber Ensemble 3G Percussion. Chu will be performing works by Higdon, Wuorinen, Akiho, Alvarez, Berberian, and a world premiere by Martin Quiroga. 3G Percussion will be performing works by Honstein, Romig, and Vinao.
  • July 15: Composer Portrait: Marcus K. Maroney - The inaugural Space City New Music Festival concludes with a concert of recent works by Festival Guest Composer Marcus Karl Maroney. The program will feature solo and chamber works performed by festival guest artists and participants, including the world premiere of a new work composed especially for the festival.

$10-$19 per concert; festival passes are available.
