Southwest Alternate Media Project and Rice Cinema film screening: City Lights

City Lights is the quintessential Charlie Chaplin film, also his largest and longest undertaking. A silent piece, it came out in the midst of the talking revolution in the movie making industry and still enjoyed a great reception for its acting and artistic genius.

The Little Tramp falls in love with a blind girl who sells flowers on the street and mistakes him for a millionaire. The film is a funny and dramatic story of love and friendship, a story full of slapstick, pantomimes and great music. In concert with the film's spirit, it will be projected from a 35 mm film print.
