Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino will present Carlos Cruz-Diez: "A Legacy in Color," featuring three large-scale Physichromies, each from different periods, representing Cruz-Diez’s ever-expanding investigation of color.
Cruz-Diez set out to challenge viewers’ traditional understanding of fine art. He searched for what he called “a new starting point” and to create work that had never been seen before. After studying the Bauhaus and other European avant-gardes at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Artes Aplicadas in Caracas, Venezuela, Cruz-Diez embarked upon his first abstract project. In 1959, the artist would create his first Physichromie - translated as physical color. This marked the beginning of a nearly six decades-long experiment into the infinite possibilities that color offers.
"A Legacy in Color," celebrating 100 years since Cruz-Diez's birth, is Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino’s seventh solo exhibition of the master artist.
The exhibition will be on display through October 12.
