Could the next Jake Heggie, John Adams, or Philip Glass hail from Houston? With submissions from around the world, the Finalists Concert is the signature event of the Foundation for Modern Music's season and honors the vision of its namesake, the late Robert Avalon. This competition celebrates exciting new music by both young and more established composers.

This year's judges are composers Tania León and Juan Trigos.

This year's cutting-edge compositions feature challenging, unconventional demands. Listeners have the opportunity to award the special Audience Prize at the conclusion of this event, based on popular vote. Performers include members of the Houston Symphony and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, the Axiom Quartet, and musicians from Rice University, University of St. Thomas and University of Houston.
