This charming rags-to-riches story brings to life the history of Manhattan’s garment district. Once the heart and soul of midtown Manhattan, the garment district was a pathway for immigrants to realize their American dream. A century later, it is in danger of disappearing as more and more jobs are outsourced to foreign countries. Schmatta relates the story of a vanishing industry through the voices of those who have experienced its highs and lows.
