The Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston presents “Magical and Mystical Oaxaca,” a two-day event celebrating the vibrant art and culture of Oaxaca, Mexico. Three exhibitions will be presented, each covering a different floor.

The first floor hosts "Four Contemporary Voices from Oaxaca: Rolando Rojas, Didier Mayes, Saul Castro, and Ixrael Montes," co-curated by Patrick Palmer and Valentina Atkinson. Through sculptures, installations, and large-scale paintings, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant colors and unique techniques that represent the rich cultural heritage and artistic traditions of Oaxaca.

The second floor features "Journey to Oaxaca: Visual Testimonies of an Immersive Cultural Experience," exhibiting works by participants of Glassell's sponsored cultural trips to Oaxaca. The third floor is dedicated to "Women Printmakers of Oaxaca," highlighting the artistic prowess of women printmakers from Oaxaca in various printmaking techniques.

A dynamic cultural program will be hosted on the second day in the auditorium. It will feature artist talks, book signings, and captivating Oaxacan dance performances by Danz Art Folklore. The program is offered in English and Spanish. The English program is from 11 am - 1 pm. The Spanish program is from 1-3 pm. Both programs will require an RSVP.
