The old Depot in downtown Tomball will ring with the sounds of banjos, dobros and fiddles as the city hosts the second annual Tomball Bluegrass Festival.
Headlining the musical event are bluegrass veterans David Davis and the Warrior River Boys. After nearly 30 years of continual touring and recording, the group has received many laurels. A 2010 inductee to the Alabama Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, Davis is widely recognized as one of the foremost practitioners of the Monroe mandolin technique. Collectively, David Davis and the Warrior River Boys continues to be at the forefront of defining traditional bluegrass music to today's audience. They take to the gazebo stage at 4:30 p.m.
Opening the event at 11:30 a.m. will be East Texas bluegrass legends the Coleman Brothers along with local pickers the Sound Check Band. Makin Tyme will perform its own regional style of bluegrass with a touch of country, blues and mountain traditional from 12:45 to 2 p.m. Austin-based performers Wood & Wire will bring its own brand of bluegrass at 2:45 p.m.
The festival site will also feature a jam area of bluegrass musicians who will come and go throughout day playing their own favorites as well as joining in with other pickers around the circle. There will be great down home cooking from Mel's Country Café and Snookie's Fish Camp, vendors, activities for the kids and more.
