The opening reception for Austin-based artist Sean Ripple's Artificial Scarcity Dec. 12 is something of a work-in-progress.
What remains of his original work is yet to be determined. Ripple took photographs, distributed prints in various cities and posted the photos on his flickr account. He then moved all of the digital images onto disks, which he tossed out of a moving car window only after deleting his flickr account.
Ripple searched for the disks last weekend on the side of the road. If he found them, he intends to sell them. If not, all that will remain of his work are the prints he left strewn about town(s).
Voila: artificial scarcity.
