Sculpture Month Houston Festival 2021 will present its fifth sculpture and installation art festival entitled "Altamira: The Primal Urge to Create."

Multiple events are planned throughout Houston and surrounding areas to celebrate three-dimensional and installation art and the artists who create them. With the overwhelming success of four previous celebrations, the Sculpture Month Houston Festival is becoming a forum to showcase cutting edge art and diverse expressions by local, state and nationally known sculptors and installation artists.

In regards to the concept for this year’s Festival, the famous cave paintings in Northern Spain and France were created about 17,000 years ago and they are considered part of the origin of art as we know it today. The artists working inside the urban cave environment of "The Silos" imagine themselves to be cave artists, but with all the modern technology at their disposal and to connect prehistoric art to contemporary perceptiveness.

Participating artists include:

  • Ariel Bowman
  • Robin Baker
  • Christyn Overstake
  • Justin Boyd
  • Elaine Bradford
  • Emily Link
  • Susan Budge
  • Larry Graeber
  • Suguru Hiraide
  • Allison Hunter
  • Kathy Kelley
  • Cindee Klement
  • Sue Anne Rische
  • John Runnels
  • Shawn Smith
  • Anthony Suber
  • Damon Thomas
  • Nestor Topchy

Following the opening reception, the festival will be on display through December 4.
