The sculpture and installation art festival, "Outta Space," sponsored by Sculpture Month Houston, features 34 igloo-like art spaces in a defunct rice silo that will provide a dramatic backdrop for the unique installations.
The title, "Outta Space," is inspired by a 2012 song from the heavy metal group Van Halen. Van Halen and his crew decided to leave Earth because of overpopulation, environmental degradation and intractable social problems. They put a bumper sticker, “Outta Space,” on their spacecraft and took off in search of a new habitat in the vastness of the cosmos. With the exploration of "Outta Space" through unique exhibitions, SMH joins in the celebratory year of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until November 30.
