The San Jacinto Museum of History Association’s 10th Special Evening with Texas History celebration will feature honoree Gene Kranz, the former Flight Director of NASA and the Director of NASA Mission Operations.

The annual fundraising event includes a cocktail reception featuring the “Moon Shot” signature drink and hors d’oeuvres; recognition of Gene Kranz, a presentation of the San Jacinto Star Award and a salute to veterans; a gourmet seated dinner celebrating the 180th anniversary of Texas Independence; a special viewing of exhibits; and rides to the Monument’s Observation Floor for a spectacular nighttime view of downtown Houston, the Ship Channel and the Battleship Texas.

On display will be the podium from which John F. Kennedy gave his famous speech on moon travel. Also present will be an extravehicular mobility unit spacesuit. This spacesuit is an exact replica of an EMU used to venture outside the orbiter cabin while in space. All funds raised from this event support conservation, exhibits, research, educational programs and the theatre of the San Jacinto Museum of History.
