Samara Gallery will present Dancing Across the Abyss, a solo exhibition of new works by Carlos Canul.

The artist’s most recent works develop a visual language that evokes mythic narrative. Referencing surrealism, ancient mythologies, and historic events, the drama and mysteries of Canul’s subjects unfold as each painting peers into the abyss.

Canul’s body of work depends on drawing and watercolors that eventuate his oil paintings. His process with oils invokes tidal forces of creation, destruction, and back again as creation, bringing forth the soul and physical visions in each work.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through July 10.
