Salon des Refusés 2013: Artwork rejected from Lawndale Art Center's The Big Show

eventdetail

This Salon des Refusés comprises artwork rejected from Lawndale Art Center's "The Big Show." The exhibition is organized into four one-night-only shows with receptions on July 19, July 26, Aug. 2 and Aug. 9. The concept is inspired by the Salon des Refusés held in Paris in 1863, which consisted of artwork rejected from the official Paris Salon, among them works by Paul Cézanne, Édouard Manet, Camille Pissarro and James Whistler.

A People's Choice cash prize donated by Marv Chacen and Mike Rudelson will be awarded at each of the four openings. This project is a collaborative effort between BLUEorange and artist Emily Sloan, who organized similar projects in 2010 and 2011.
