River Oaks Chamber Orchestra closes its concert season with an ambitious program featuring rather large masterworks, both familiar classics and newer compositions. Nathan Williams, principal clarinetist, tears it up with Aaron Copland's all-American and somewhat jazzy clarinet concerto. Also on the program is the Symphony No. 1 by Dean Jose Antonio Bowen from SMU Meadows School of the Arts (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Music in 1985), ending with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, whose layered and complex second movement has been consistently quoted. As with all ROCO concerts, expect some surprise additions to the program.
