ROCO’s penchant for commissioning new music shines in this concert filled with world and Texas premieres. From the third and final movement of Richard Danielpour’s Symphony in Three Movements After the Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri to Ellisor’s consortium-commissioned A Woman Without Apology, new works by two of today’s sought-after and exciting composers, to Astor Piazzolla’s Tangazo- an edgy tango created in Piazzolla’s own unique language, audiences embark on a journey that ends with the Texas premiere of Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos Symphony-Suite, sliding into the “new” music category as being a chamber arrangement of his opera.
