ROCO’s musician-curated series returns for a concert centered around a work written especially for cellist Alexis Gerlach by Kevin Puts, entitled Arcana.
The piece, according to Gerlach, is "a hauntingly beautiful and evocative tone poem for solo cello and string quintet, inspired by a visit at sunrise to the summit of a sleeping volcano in Hawaii." The "visit" refers to the composer's description of a early morning ethereal vista at the summit of volcano on island of Maui, which contrasts with the more earthly charms of Brahms’ String Sextet.
