In this concert, masterworks by modern female poets Parveen Shakir and Amrita Pritam will be sung in the radiant tradition of qawwali music for the first time. The nationally celebrated (and Houston-based) group Riyaaz Qawwali celebrates these major figures of Urdu and Punjabi literature with a performance of original compositions conceptualized by Riyaaz Qawwali's founder and Artistic Director Sonny K. Mehta and commissioned by Asia Society Texas.
