The River Oaks Chamber Orchestra kicks off its 10th anniversary season with a concert titled "Once Upon a Time," featuring conductor Victor Yampolsky, acclaimed violinist Brian Lewis and a world premiere composition by Maria Newman.
The composition — the 39th world premiere commissioned by ROCO in its first 10 seasons — is based on the children's story The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and is titled Abilene Violin Concerto. It will feature former ROCO concertmaster Brian Lewis on violin.
The evening performance will also include Mozart's final symphony, the Jupiter Symphony, plus Rossini's spirited Italian in Algiers Overture and Britten's Suite on English Folk Tunes.
This is a ticketed event for the covered seating area. Free tickets are available (four per person over age 16, while they last) at the Miller Outdoor Theatre box office the day of the performance between 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. If tickets remain at 1 p.m., the box office will re-open one hour before show time to distribute the remaining tickets. Open seating on the hill is always available.
