Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
Rienzi hosts an enlightening evening to celebrate the notorious history of gin. Guests sample gin and gin cocktails from the 16th century through the 1980s, paired with a four-course dinner. The menu by chefs Richard Knight and Benjy Mason (Feast, Down House and the upcoming Hunky Dory) features brawn, pickled apples, edam and black bread; cottage herb soup; and roast pork with crackling, root vegetables and chutney.
Samantha Mendoza (Triniti) creates a trio of desserts for the final course. Bartender and gin expert Jeremy Olivier discusses the evolution of gin as well as gin's considerable impact on the course of European history. Examples from each period of gin's development accompany the dinner.
