Rice University Theatre will present David Ives’ collection of short comedies, All in the Timing.” The collection includes six short plays under 15 minutes that offer a comedic, insightful, and reflective commentary on life through a set of anomalous occurrences.
The plays include:
- Sure Thing – Follow the story of a man and woman who meet each other for the first time at a local coffee shop, and find their encounter reset and looped from each awkward moment to next. What unfolds is a series of events that leads to hilarity, honesty, and romance. All to beg the question: What if you could go back and redo all the awkward moments from a first encounter?
- The Philadelphia – A man finds himself stuck in an anomalous pocket of reality called a “Philadelphia.” In this pocket reality, one’s every want and desire are met only with its opposite. If you want water, then you better ask for a soda. If you want a soda, then you better ask for water. Enjoy Ives’ wit and charm in this short play that answers the question- What do you do when you’re stuck in Philadelphia?
- Words, Words, Words – Can a monkey make art? How about writing a word for word copy of Hamlet? What if you had three monkeys set to the task? What would they come up with? Find out in this witty and reflective commentary on the human condition delivered from the viewpoint of three monkeys put to the task of writing Hamlet for themselves.
