Rice University School of Natural Sciences hosts Rice Science Café "Symmetries"

eventdetail
Art by Pamela Jones

Our lives are governed by symmetries, although we may not often think about the role that symmetries play in our life. German mathematician Emmy Noether showed that there is a deep relationship between symmetries and conserved quantities in nature. This talk, led by physics and astronomy professor Marjorie Corcoran, will show some of the symmetries of nature and how Noether's theorem has had a profound impact on our understanding of the laws of physics and the evolution of the universe.
