Rice Design Alliance presents An Evening in McGovern Centennial Gardens

eventdetail

In 1992, Rice Design Alliance co-sponsored the Heart of the Park Design Competition, along with the newly-formed Friends of Hermann Park. The competition led to the commissioning of a new master plan for the Hermann Park. The McGovern Centennial Gardens marks the completion of this master plan.

Hermann Park Conservancy and Rice Design Alliance are collaborating once again to present a special summer event with guest speaker Doug Hoerr of Hoerr Schaudt. Hoerr received the design commission in 2009 for the McGovern Centennial Gardens, along with James Patterson of White Oak Studio, the landscape architect of record.

Hoerr recently co-authored a new book, Movement and Meaning, which features the McGovern Centennial Park along with 45 public, private, and cultural projects that reveals Hoerr Schaudt’s talent for creating meaningful, ever-evolving designs. The event will include a short lecture by Hoerr to highlights how architecture and horticulture come together in the design of the Centennial Gardens followed by a curated tour of the garden. The evening will end with a wine reception and book signing.
