In this autobiographical masterpiece, director/dancer/choreographer extraordinaire Bob Fosse (1927–1987) tells his life story through the manic character of Joe Gideon (Roy Scheider), a workaholic theater director fueled by all manner of substances to keep up with his hectic schedule of projects and romantic entanglements.

All That Jazz becomes a confessional of sorts as Joe confides in an Angel of Death (Jessica Lange), and the film is punctuated by hallucinatory production numbers and much melodrama. The memorable cast also includes Ann Reinking, Ben Vereen, John Lithgow and Wallace Shawn. All That Jazz was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
