Redbud Gallery will present an original portfolio collaboration between the late Los Angeles artist, John Altoon, and the poet Robert Creeley. Altoon (1925-1969) was a well-known avant-garde figure in the Los Angeles art scene in the mid-20th century. He was a follower of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. His last major exhibition was held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2014. He was included in the most recent Menil Collection exhibition, “Holy Barbarians.”
This exhibit of lithographs from the "About Women" portfolio is from the collection of Gus Kopriva. The works in "About Women" were inspired by three poems: "Anger," "The Woman," and "Distance" written by Robert Creeley, a major 20th-century poet known for his emotional power.
The exhibit will be on display through June 6.
