For the past few decades, El Paso-based 77-year-old artist/poet/engineer James Magee has been constructing a monument that few have seen in the Chihuahua desert. Located on 2000 acres east of El Paso, The Hill is truly one of the artistic monument wonders of America.

The Hill is not earth art or sculpture. It is a monument that is analogous to the temples of Mesoamerica or various regions of Asia. Very few paintings of the monument exist. While undergoing 33 days of medical treatments in Houston, Magee created 33 paintings. He was treated in the morning and created one painting that afternoon.

Redbud Gallery East is hosting an inaugural showing of these paintings. Each framed and signed work is priced at $1,500 and all proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit Cornudas Mountain Foundation which governs the site.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until August 30.
