Redbud Gallery opening reception: Milagros and Landscapes by Liza Littlefield

eventdetail

Liza Littlefield's paintings are primarily narrative landscapes in which there are references to mysterious happenings or even unusual couplings of images. According to the artist, some of them are quite metaphysical, with energy or light emanating from plants or mountains in the landscapes. Figures leap through the air and the skies may vibrate subtly.

In the past year, Littlefield has been exploring the idea of "passionate landscapes." In these small images, she considers several different types of passion: Sexual, violent and simple beauty. The Milagro windows are the first in a new series, based on the artist's belief that immigrants need a great deal of assistance in arriving in the U.S, just as her ancestors did hundreds of years ago.

On view through March 29.
