Unmade/Whole, a solo exhibition featuring Nathan Sapio, manifests the literal and ideological slippage of painting. Through analytical deconstruction, paintings generate subsequent paintings as reconstructions, simultaneously filtering and expanding ideas of painting and principles by which paint is organized and perceived. Unmade/Whole is ultimately a project that creates paintings to attempt to understand the idea of painting as a whole.
Nathan Sapio is an artist currently living and working in Houston who teaches at Lone Star College. He was a visiting Post MFA Faculty Fellow at the University of Georgia. He completed his MFA in Painting and Drawing at the University of Florida's School of Art and Art History, and completed his BFA at Sam Houston State University.
On view through July 19.
