Isabel Pinto
Portuguese singer Mariza is coming to Houston for a one-night-only performance on Nov. 12. She is widely regarded as the new face of fado, a mournful Portuguese version of the blues.
Mariza will perform hits off her Latin Grammy–nominated album Terra. She sings traditional fado accompanied by a six-string Portuguese guitarra, but Mariza has expanded her sound to include piano, flute, cello and various percussion instruments.
Mariza fell in love with fado, a musical form long associated with the working class, at her father's taverna, where musicians often played downstairs. Her most recent album has gone triple-platinum.
